IF YOU'RE NOT FAMILIAR WITH TAILWIND OR USE TAILWIND'S PINTEREST TOOL ONLY TO SCHEDULE YOUR PINS, YOU'RE IN FOR A TREAT.
Late 2020, Tailwind released a new PowerUp called “Tailwind Create” promising that you can create professionally-looking pin designs super quick. As it is a part of Tailwind’s Pinterest solution, it also claims to streamline your workflow as it allows you to push your fresh pin designs straight from Tailwind Create to the Publisher tab so that you can create and schedule your content pieces in one sitting.
If all their marketing pledges are true, that would mean no more downloading and uploading pins from one app to another, no more paying for two tools, no more wondering if your pins look enticing enough to grab your audience’s attention. The benefits certainly made an impression on me. I was hooked...
However, I was also very sceptical as I’ve never been 100% satisfied with what I call a design-generating app so far. Because if your original images weren’t perfectly edited and cropped on point, those “wonder apps” just amplified the picture’s flaws and created a piece of art that looked less than fab.
So, as open-minded as possible, I gave Tailwind Create a go to see if it’s worth your attention.
Say hello to Tailwind Create - the nifty tool that designs stunning pins in minutes (yes, I'm talking about pins that stand out and make people want to click).
...why you shouldn’t use your old design templates to create new pins.
...how Tailwind Create works in a nutshell.
...where to go to log in to Tailwind to access your dashboard.
...the secret behind on-brand pins.
...what you need to enter to how to bring your pin idea to life.
...everything about the three filters that help you pick the best designs out of 100s of suggestions.
...how you can change the style of a pin design in seconds and fine-tune your creations like a designer.
...the single button to click to push your pin over to the scheduling tab.
...why you should give this tool a go (especially if you want to save time + money!).
LET'S START WITH THE BASICS:
How to access Tailwind Create
Tailwind Create is an advanced feature within Tailwind’s paid Pinterest solution and as such, is free for users on Tailwind’s Pinterest Plus plan. The lowest included Tailwind Create tier for new users allows you to craft up to 15 designs a month and favourite up to 5 designs; it also gives you access to quite an impressive pool of stock images, a library full of basic elements/graphics to choose from plus drag, drop and editing functionality and more.
As I was already on the paid plan, I simply accessed this new PowerUp via my dashboard. If you haven’t tested Tailwind yet, I highly recommend doing that now so you can follow along and decide for yourself. Click here to sign up for a no-strings-attached trial of Tailwind’s Pinterest solution (no credit card required).
By the way, the trial doesn’t just encompass Tailwind Create; you’ll get access to Tailwind's full Pinterest suite - including the amazing publisher and insights functionality - as it’s an all-in-one app. Check it out and schedule up to 100 pins on Pinterest as part of your trial before you make up your mind if it’s the right tool for you long-term.
Insider Tip: Should you love this tool as much as I do, and choose to proceed with a paid Pinterest Plus plan, make sure to check out their bundle offerings when you activate your plan. Depending on your needs, you may want to go for a higher Tailwind Create tier that lets you make more designs per month and access a bigger pool of image/graphic options plus some other perks. The best part is that you’ll lock in the current pricing for life if you upgrade today.
Once you signed up for the free trial, let’s head over to the dashboard to test if the designs are really that good.
How to create on-brand pins with Tailwind Create
Inside Tailwind, click the Tailwind Create tab (or brush icon) on the dashboard’s left-hand side.
To create your first pin, set up your brand look and feel. So let’s do this now:
Enter your brand information (here: the URL/website or business name you want to display on your design).
Choose your fonts or select one of the curated font pairings (via the drop-down link).
Set your brand colours or pick a curated colour palette (via the drop-down link).
Upload a high-quality version of your business logo, favicon or a similar graphic element depending on what you want to use on your pins.
Click “Save and Continue”.
Now let’s feed this smart system everything it needs to know about your content idea (by the way, you don’t need to think about the perfect pin size, Tailwind Create uses Pinterest’s recommended dimensions by default):
Enter the URL (or destination link) of your blog post, product or service you want to promote with this piece. If you push this pin through to Publisher to schedule it, this is the URL that your pin visitors will be directed to if they click.
Type in the main headline or title you want to show on this pin. Don’t worry about subtitles or other text right now. You can add everything you want later on in the process when you fine-tune your winning designs.
Upload a couple of high-quality photos in the right dimensions representing your content idea from your device and/or browse the stock photo library and select your favourites. Aim to upload at least 3-5 images (even better if you can upload 8-ish) so that Tailwind Create has more options to blow you away with their design suggestions.
Click “Create Images”.
While waiting for Tailwind Create to build the designs (I’m talking about 100s of layout suggestions), my first time around, I got more and more nervous to see the outcome. I mean how much subpar designs can one take?
But Tailwind Create stood by their promises when they revealed the creations. Because they’re truly outstanding - all in designer-quality, all unique, all ready for me to be used without a lot of adjustments and all on-brand.
I was sold... but see for yourself.
So, what do you think about Tailwind Create and these design suggestions? I’d love to know. You can leave me a comment here.
When you first scroll down to eye all of the designs, it’s easy to get stuck in decision paralysis. That’s why I love the three filters at the top right.
You can filter by Content Type (for example, blog post, opt-in offer, promotion/sale, etc.), Industry / Niche (for example, blog/b2b, education, parenting & family, etc.) or Pin Format (for example, ad, collage, “how to” post, etc.). This allows you to see different styles that match your goal without having to scroll through everything.
If you want to change the look and feel, simply click the “try on different looks” drop-down and play around by changing the colour focus, using a different photo and/or changing the layout.
Remember: You can always make additional tweaks via the editing functionality later on. So don’t spend too much time playing around with the different styles; go with what caught your eye in the first place.
If you want to go crazy on your designs (which I think isn’t really necessary as they already look incredible out of the box), you can fine-tune them further… To do that, click “Edit”.
Now you can put the finishing touches on your designs.
To adjust text, elements or photos, select the respective tab on the outer left-hand side.
Depending on your choice in the previous step, you can now add copy, objects or images/graphics to your pins. To do that, go to the options on the inner left-hand side and click the things you want to add.
Then, go to the outer right-hand side and format/edit single objects in more depth. Make sure that you’ve clicked the element on your pin that you want to tweak beforehand.
Once you’re happy with your creation, click “Save and Go Back”.
To add a design to “Your favourite Designs” (tab at the top of the page), simply hover over the image to “heart” it. Easy, isn’t it?
Now, choose your favourites by clicking the “+ Select” button to add them to your review selection.
Head over to the “Review your Selection” tab and check that everything is correct when it comes to your pin, then click “Go Schedule” (or the “Download” button if that’s what you want to do). Your eye-catching design is now in the “Drafts” area of the “Publisher” tab.
Congrats! You’ve just created your very first pin with Tailwind Create. Now it’s time to schedule it in so that the publishing functionality can share it with the world at the best time.
I know what you’re thinking right now...
IS A THIRD-PARTY TOOL THAT AUTOMATICALLY PUBLISHES PINS TO PINTEREST REALLY A SMART IDEA?
Accounts that get on Pinterest’s naughty list aren’t most likely on there because of a third-party scheduling tool (by the way, Tailwind is an official partner of Pinterest and as such 100% safe).
Those users are probably in the doghouse because they didn’t follow Pinterest’s policies or best practices. For example, they may have shared the exact same design to 30 of their boards within 15 minutes. That’s spamming and a no-no.
Pinterest loves fresh, unique content As this platform is all about quality over quantity. And Tailwind’s all-in-one solution for Pinterest works with this principle in mind
Even though you can create lots of different, great-looking designs in mere minutes with Tailwind Create, thanks to the Publisher that’s integrated in Tailwind’s Pinterest tool, you can spread out your pins over weeks and schedule them in at a time that works in your favour. As a result, no spamming and therefore thumbs up from me!
As you know, I was a bit unsure whether this smart feature is really worth my time. I’m glad I tested it as it’s now part of my marketing workflow, and I wouldn’t want to miss it.
By adding this cool feature to their Pinterest solution, Tailwind made sticking to and levelling up your Pinterest strategy a whole lot easier.
It's a game-changer for starting and established Pinterest users as it offers a streamlined workflow from pin idea to creation to publishing without the price tag and tech overwhelm.
Everything is straightforward, and the designs are an absolute head-turner and worth a click.
So, try it out and let me know how you liked Tailwind and, of course, Tailwind Create.
